Gavra Lynn

Bio – Gavra Lynn is a singer songwriter that left an indelible mark on the Asheville music and art scene. Gavra Lynn was the first to take house paints to brick in chicken alley—the mural of the chickens. Dozens of local artists had the opportunity to show in exhibits she organized. She launched and hosted the 8mm/Super 8 Flicker Film Festival  during her reign as the undisputed queen of Lexington Avenue. She represented North Carolina in the Hank Williams Song Writing Contest at his boyhood home in Georgiana, Alabama, and her song placed in the finals. There’s a little alt country, a little singer-songwriter, a bit of Patti Smith, and a lot of Gavra in every song she sings. It would be hard to find a person more familiar to the the old guard of Asheville creatives than Gavra. During an era when the now weather-sealed replacement windows of newly minted condos were a mix of dark blanks and odd revelations looking out onto downtown (example in point, the long, undulating wall made entirely of dozens of gleaming, giant, food service tin cans that could be seen from the window counter at Heiwa). One space frequently flickered with the light of video editing and candles and mixed creative/festive fervor— 62 1/2 N. Lexington, Gavra Lynn’s loft. It’s proximity to Vincent’s  Ear — across the courtyard— led to a steady stream of pre- and post-show gatherings — the White Stripes stopped by for waffles, The Sadies just came by to say ‘hi.’ She moved away in 2006 and has continued to make art and music wherever she lands. After a long stay in Peoria, Illinois, she is traveling and passing this way.
